As we experience the initial hints that summer 2014 may be waning in Western New York (after all, the Erie County Fair is just over the horizon), I thought I’d share some photos that I took on July 1st while driving around Buffalo in preparation for a posting soon thereafter. The images reflect the spirit and pride Buffalonians feel for their neighborhoods throughout the Queen City – neighborhoods that deserve to be nourished and protected.
The images below are certainly just the tip of the iceberg – dozens of other block clubs and neighborhood groups undoubtedly have their own displays that are meant to beautify the streets and represent the self-respect of the men, women and children living nearby. Please let me know where else I should be looking.
Thanks.
While they may not depict “block club signs,” I’d like to share a few additional images that I enjoyed while traversing the streets of Buffalo, NY on July 1, 2014:

For years the Elmwood Village Association (EVA) vehemently opposed the enactment of the COB “Green Code” . Just recently the sponsored a Green Code presentation…what changed their minds…or who got paid off,….???!!
Dear BrickRoad58,’
Thank you for taking the time to leave a message at my blog. I just wanted to share my understanding of the EVA’s position on the Green Code.
From everything that I have seen for the past 2 or 3 years, the current EVA “administration” has been fully supportive of the BGC. The EVA functions as the “Elmwood Ave. Chamber of Commerce”, almost always taking the side of the business interests over the concerns of nearby residents. That has translated into the EVA backing the Green Code’s “green light” to commercial development – even on residential streets [except the Lincoln Parkways, Beard Avenues, etc.] So, the EVA’s sponsoring of a BGC information meeting was not a surprise to me.
I think the EVA representatives and city staff at the Elmwood Village meeting were a bit taken back by the number of concerned citizens who were not “drinking the Green Code Kool-Aid.” I’m curious to see if there will be any change in the EVA’s attitude towards the BGC in the weeks and months to come.
